David Vs. Goliath by unwrittenrulebreaker

I am a video-game addict, and games like “David vs. Goliath” are my drug.

David Vs. Goliath is an interesting take on the Biblical story of David and Goliath. Only this time, you play as David. And instead of five smooth stones, you have weapons like grenades and rocket launchers. And Goliath is a 30-foot tall robot, with thousands of minions at his command. Overall, it’s an addicting game, with lots of features and tons of cool things to discover.

For the past couple of weeks, every time I thought about writing this review, I played the game first. I told myself I was looking for the perfect screenshots.

What I was really looking for, was the last few pieces of the ninja-suit. Buy all eight pieces, and you unlock the super-secret NINJA MODE.

Well, I finally got those pieces, and now that I’ve satisfied my curiosity about what exactly NINJA MODE is, I can sit down and write this review.

THE GAME:

“David vs. Goliath” is a free, one-player game you can download from http://www.zango.com However, it is only free because you have to install adware from Zango if you want to play the game.

Very. Annoying. Adware.

It doesn’t interrupt your game any, but after installing, it makes web-surfing a pain, since it loads these huge pop-up ads, most of which have music, which is really irritating when you’re trying to watch videos on YouTube.

Fortunately, it’s really easy to disable. CTRL-ALT-DEL and in Windows Task Manager, close out zango.exe You will have to do this every time you start up your computer, and every time you close out of “David vs Goliath” (hereafter to be called DvG. Why? Because I’m lazy… And I want to finish this review so I can play DvG some more!)

DvG is a third-person shooter. You start out as David, a little guy armed with just a slingshot. As you progress through the 30 levels of the game, you can pick up and learn to use many different kinds of weapons, including grenades, a Gatling gun, a rocket launcher, and a chicken that sits on your shoulder and shoots egg-bombs at your enemies.

And there are tons of enemies. Goliath’s men, among them archers, ninjas, and robo-suit clad warriors, all are trying to destroy you and keep you from going up against their boss.

You will fight Goliath several times in the progress of the game, and each time it gets harder and harder to defeat him. But when you do, the game isn’t over yet! Beating the game once on any level of difficulty unlocks INSANE MODE. (Which is, as the name suggest, insanely difficult) Collecting all the Ninja-suit pieces from Milligan the Merchant unlocks Ninja-Mode, in which David has a ninja-suit, he’s faster and easier to control, and has what the game calls “cooler weapons”.

But as a Ninja, you can only carry one kind of weapon at a time (compared to regular mode, in which you can have two different ones, one a gun-type and the other a missle-type.) I liked the old mode better.

It’s worth taking a look at, but don’t waste all your time trying to get those pieces.

Instead, waste your time trying to fight Goliath, collect chickens and other critters to save up for bunny amulets (which enable you to continue from where you were when you died, instead of having to start again from the last checkpoint) and figure out who that helpful ninja is, and if he knows what happened to the Professor’s daughter.

I give this game a 4/5. The only thing keeping it from 5/5 is the adware. The game itself is excellent!

Game of the Month February: Madness Interactive by Connor

Edit: I Know that it isn’t febuary, but this deserves it!

Madness Interactive is a game based on the much popular Madness Series. It has three modes: Story mode (New Game), Challenge mode and Experiment mode.

In Story mode, you fight your way into the sheriffs office as he has taken your pie. This is very difficult but well worth it. One of the highlights is when Jesus appears with a machine gun, resurrecting FBI and shooting down at you. The best way to kill him is to use an automatic weapon whilst jumping out of the way of zombies.

Madness 1

In Challenge mode, you play one of four mini games to unlock cheats:

In Matrix you try to unlock newyorkminute, the unlimited bullet time cheat. You must kill lots and lots of smiths to unlock this, or just go to Options > Cheats and enter newyoukminute.

In Zombies you unlock willis, the invincible cheat. You must kill zombies, people and a weaker Jesus. To cheat your way, go to Options > Cheats and enter willis.

In Lasers you unlock guide, the laser guide cheat. You shoot lasers with a pistol and a jetpack, this one is mesured by time. To cheat your way, go to Options > Cheats and enter guide.

In Knifing Around you unlock armstrong, the arm lengthening cheat. You have to throw knives at a dummy, you have one minute, if the knife hits the floo, you lose a point, if it hits you get a point, if it misses, nothing happens. To cheat your way, go to Options > Cheats and enter armstrong.

I’ll give this a 5/5 and Game of the Month February

Ragdoll Masters by Connor

Ragdoll Masters is an offline stick fighting game with some real class, this isn’t just another fighting game, but one in almost zero g, and it’s a download. It has three modes, 1 Player, 2 Player vs and 2Player co-op. In 1 Player mode in the free version, you are pitted against a black stick man (you are the white one) and you must control your character via the arrow keys, trying to hit the other characters head and body with your arms and legs (and head, although, if you hit their head with yours, both will receive damage). Combo’s are gained through repeated damaging hits in a short space of time and multiply the amount of damage you give. Damage is visible through red bands on the characters arms but only use this as a guide. Once you have defeated your enemy, they explode into their component parts (balls, this game works by joining balls and allowing some movement, some damaging ability, and some the ability to take damage).

Ragdoll 1

But what will keep you coming back is the vs mode, it uses the same control method but player two uses the WASD keys, the AI may be good in 1 player mode but playing against an enemy that’s beside you is much harder and much more fun.

Ragdoll 2 - combo

This may be a paying game, but it’s well worth downloading it and, maybe, buying the full version.

Ragdoll 3 - winner

4/5 – Cos it’s a short game, but really fun
